Bridge Deck Waterproofing

Bridge decks are exposed to high mechanical stresses during their lifespan and in such big important building structures, there are various factors that cause significant damages to the concrete substrates, leading to the corrosion of the reinforcement, thus making the waterproofing and protection of their decks and construction joints vital during their construction.

Specifically, harsh climatic conditions play a significant role on the durability over the lifespan of bridges, being detrimental to their longevity.

Moreover, bridge decks are subject to heavy loads that cause constant movement, which means that the need of the installation of waterproofing system with crack bridging capabilities, which enhance the protection and accommodate their movement and hence the possible creation of new cracks.

Another critical issue that comes up, is the chemical aggression of different substances such as salts and oils that fall to the asphalt and then penetrate the bridge deck that may cause deterioration of the concrete. These factors make the waterproofing of the bridge deck with systems that can offer high chemical resistance, paramount for avoiding damages to the concrete.

ALCHIMICA’s bridge deck waterproofing system based on HYPERDESMO®-300 is the ultimate solution for every small or large bridge. HYPERDESMO®-300 is a single component, moisture curing polyurethane/polyurea liquid applied membrane, especially designed for the waterproofing of bridge decks. HYPERDESMO®- 300 displays crack bridging properties over a wide range of high or low temperatures, has excellent resistance to various chemicals as well as to chlorine ion penetration. While it is a liquid cold applied system that can be easily applied without the need of special application equipment. CE certified according to ETAG 033 “LIQUID APPLIED BRIDGE DECK WATERPROOFING KITS”.
